Your Senior patients today are anything but retired. They are more active, involved in hobbies, activities and perhaps still employed-demanding exceptional visual acuity. Acclaim 61 trifocal series (formerly called KCB lenses) are designed to keep your senior patients proficient and visually comfortable.
Traditional trifocals have an intermediate power of 50% of the bifocal add power. This was because glass lenses could most easily be made with 50% intermediates-it became the accepted trifocal design. However, as you know, the actual needs of presbyopes vary with their loss of accommodative ability. Studies suggest that the majority of advanced presbyopes need more power in the 13" to 18" vision range. At this range, patients experiencing reduced acuity will strain to accommodate for clear vision, often causing severe eye fatigue, headaches and tiredness.
Dr. Kinsley C. Bennett, OD, noted that many advanced presbyopes need additional power at extended intermediate ranges. And some of these patients have difficulty tolerating unwanted astigmatism, characteristic in progressive lenses. In these cases, a fixed-power trifocals lens style with spherical optics at all ranges can be a comfortable solution for the patient.
After extensive clinical evaluation Dr. Bennett determined that a 61% intermediate power was most suitable for comfortable vision. This work laid the foundation for the Acclaim 61 trifocal series.
Acclaim 61 is the solution for the patient who has been wearing a traditional 50% trifocal and is now experiencing difficulty because of advanced presbyopia. It is the solution for computer users experiencing computer vision syndrome who need added plus power at intermediate ranges. And it is the solution for those who have trouble adapting to progressive lenses. Typically presbyopes do about 50% to 80% of their work at intermediate vision ranges-exactly where Acclaim 61 has been designed to help by providing 61% intermediate range power. Acclaim 61 will provide clear, comfortable vision at this range with easy adaptation.
